How to setup a workshop collection.

Creating a Garry's Mod Workshop Collection

If you've spent more than five minutes playing Garry's Mod, you'll probably have noticed that when you connect to most servers, you're required to download workshop content as you load in. This is a cheeky guide to quick start you on getting a workshop collection setup and linked to your game server, so your players are downloading the 200 DarkRP addons smoothly.

As with pretty much all of our guides, the presumption is made that you're using Physgun to host your server. If you're not using Physgun, you're making a huge mistake in your hosting choices. And you'll also be required to use common sense to fill in the blanks.

Step 1: Create the Workshop Collection

First off, head to Steam and login. Once this is done, head to the Garry's Mod Workshop Collections page. Once there, you'll be greeted by the following page, you're gonna want to hit the highlighted "Create Collection" button.

You'll then be prompted to fill out a form with some information, there's no requirements for Garry's Mod for this page. Just fill it out as it tells you, making sure to tick the Items that work together box under What kind of collection is this?. Once you're all done, hit Save and Continue at the bottom of the page.

Step 2: Adding addons

Your workshop collection is now created! If you head to your workshop collections under Profile -> Workshop Items -> Collections, you should see your shiny new workshop collection. But it's not ready yet, we've still got to add addons and publish the workshop collection. Head onto your collection and you should see a page similar to below. Here you can quickly build a collection using addons you've made, favourited or have subscribed to. Once you're happy with your starting collection, hit Save and Continue at the bottom of the page.

Step 4: Linking your collection with your server

First off, grab the ID for your collection. You can find this in the URL for your workshop collection as shown here

Once you've done that, go to your server game panel, head to Configuration -> Server Options and make your way to the Workshop ID section. Put the collection ID there, then click off to save it. Once you're done, restart your server to start downloading the content to your server.

Step 5: Getting clients to download your content

Doing this is simple with Physgun! Simply navigate to the Download Manager in Tools -> Download Manager
Once you are there click Generate and it will automatically generate a file that will force your clients to download from your collection!
